VW MAINTENANCE:
A few of the more common maintenance services our customers are interested in include:
OIL SERVICE: At Revolution Motors, we recommend that Volkswagen cars with turbos have synthetic oil service (synthetic oil, oil filter and complimentary 20 point inspection) every 5k miles. Some models do not require synthetic oil; in this case oil service should be performed every 3k miles. Remember, if you are driving a turbo-aspirated VW, you MUST use synthetic oil or risk the dreaded engine sludge!
TIRE ROTATION:Tires should be rotated every 5-7k miles. It is convenient for many of our customers to have their tires rotated when performing oil service.
TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT: Volkswagen cars have interference engines: the valves extend into the path of the piston. When a timing belt fails, the piston (caused by the timing being off) hits the valve and gets bent. The end result is a very costly repair and possible irreparable damage to the engine. Timing belt replacements generally should be performed at 80k intervals to minimize the possibility of engine damage. This is an extremely important maintenance item that should not be postponed!
BRAKE FLUSH: VW recommends this service be performed every two years without regard to mileage. Over time, brake fluid collects moisture which lowers its boiling point. A lower boiling point means more vaporization. More vaporization means less pressure in the system. A great loss of pressure can result in brake failure.
COOLANT FLUSH: Revolution recommends a coolant flush every two years. Coolant breaks down and loses its ability to remove waste heat from the engine. This leads to overheating and possible radiator and engine damage. Gunk (for lack of a better term) and mineral deposits also have a tendency to build up over time reducing your cooling system’s efficiency. This may contribute to a clogged heater core, which seems to be fairly common problem (and quite expensive to replace) in this make.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (A/T FLUID) CHANGE: VW guidelines for this important service vary depending on year and model. Refer to your service booklet. Revolution may recommend this service at an earlier interval than your service booklet due to driving conditions and the extreme heat of Texas.
FACTORY RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE:
Volkswagen needs vary according to year, model and engine. Please refer to your service booklet for more information on mileage-based maintenance services.
Every VW we service receives a complimentary 20 point courtesy check / safety inspection. The inspection includes checking fluids, suspension and drive-train components, belts, battery, tires, brakes, bulbs/lighting, windshield wipers and much, much more. We’ll let you know what you need when you need it!
